I think you will be happy in Bristow. As others have said, it is in the newer, developed area of Prince William County so, of course, things are nice, clean, new and shiny. It will be years and years probably before mixed development sets in and you get the "undesirable" effects of that that most other areas have.

Having said that, I live in Woodbridge and commute to the Navy Yard. One of the LAST places I would ever move, commute-wise, is Massasas, Gainesville, or Bristow. They have got to be the worst for commuting in (this is the consensus of many of my coworkers who live in these areas). I-66, Rt. 28, and other roads in that area can be a nightmare. Don't get me wrong, I-95 is too; however, the Woodbridge area has to be one of the best developed in the area of commuter transit options of any of the outlying suburbs. It's great in that regard.

My coworker lives in Manassas and she starts/ends work at the same time I do (6:00 a.m.-2:30) and she has a far worse time getting in and going home than I do, even at that time. She says 66 is awful and often times she will commute down to Woodbridge and cross over to Manassas through the parkway.

It used to be that I-95 was the worst with I-66 close behind. Then they were both pretty bad. I-95 had some improvements done and it did get better. I-66 has continued to get worse and I see no end in sight for it. I avoid it on weekends too.

But, given your husband's work schedule, I think Bristow is very doable and I think you will be very happy living out there.

Yes, Bristow is a very nice area. I live in Gainesville. I'd say depending on the time of the day an hour for the commute sounds about right. I commute to Reston and do it in 35 minutes usually if I leave the house at 5:55 AM. On the way home more like 40-45 minutes. I've not commuted straight down I-66 so I'm not sure what that will be like, again it depends on what time of the morning and afternoon you go that route.

Don't think for a minute that Bristow is immune form the huge price declines in PWC. Since, everything is newer, that makes for more UNstability, as everyone is in at close to the top of the market.
Nokesville RD? Geeeesh.

Thanks again for all the replies. We're glad to hear the commute is about what we're expecting based on his schedule. As for the poster who was telling us about the unstability, we have come to expect that most places right now are unstable - even places that are stable at the moment may not be in a week or month. However, a big factor in deciding to buy is the fact that we have a young family and are looking for a home to raise our children in. It would be 10+ years before we would consider moving.
Thanks again - as for now we're going to focus our search in Bristow and then branch out a little from there.
