Need help! After searching the sex offender database, I see there are 65 offenders in Fairfax, and only 24 in Annandale. Fairfax is half of Annandale's size and has 3 times the number of offenders! Why is that? Is Fairfax not a safe place to live? Would I be better off buying a house in Annandale?
Thanks for any advice you can lend!

Maybe Fairfax county is just better at registration and reporting of the sex offenders. There might be a lot living in Annadale as well, but not necessarily reported.

There is no jail in Annandale.

How is that for an answer?

Agreed. Also, make sure you look at what type of offense they are convicted of. A lot may be minor offenses that are not really worrisome. As far as I'm concerned, unless I have someone near me who's been convicted of rape, or molestation (especially of children, and a one time offender of an adult doesn't bother me too much unless the details are bad), I don't really pay much mind to the registry.

Annandale is part of Fairfax County so the Annandale numbers are part of the Fairfax County numbers. To the OP, just to clarify, are you checking for Fairfax City (not County) for the offender numbers?

Fairfax County population in July 2007: 1,010,241 -> 6 out of 1000 is a sex offender

Annandale Population in July 2007: 56,975 -> 4 out of 1000 is a sex offender

It's all sort of relative..on my very nice street of well kept homes in Kingstowne, we have two convicted sex offenders...possession of kiddie pics. They live in every neighborhood, cross all social-economic boundries. Know thy enemy, as they say. I know their cars, when they are the mail box etc. I wouldn't think twice about confronting them if I saw them speaking to a child.

These are professional men, with wives, and jobs that obviously pay rather well. I'm a renter...but I would buy in the neighborhood, what are the odds of MORE moving in!

Fairfax county has a large population and is considered one of the wealthiest counties in the US. What do you expect?
