Home rental advice for Northern VA
My husband and I are looking to rent a home in Northern VA. We have a toddler and are expecting a second child in July. We live in Arlington now and want to move farther out. Arlington is simply too cramped and we'd love to find a nice place with a yard-- a real yard, not a patch of grass. We're looking at Loudoun County and have found some lovely homes, but are wondering what the commute is like? We are open to the idea of driving to a metro station to save time. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Loudon County will likely have convenient access to Metro at about the time your kids are in college. Well, maybe that's stretching it a bit, but probably not by much. In the meantime, it depends on where you will be commuting to, where in Loudon you think you'd like to be, and what sort of rent you think would be okay. There may be some non-Loudon areas that, all things considered, would meet your needs better...

Honestly, I would look into Prince William County before Loudon. Commute is about the same, you can make it to the Springfield station in about 15 minutes from where I live in Lake Ridge. There are also commuter bus stops at just about every corner, and from Potomac Mills. You can find a single family home around 500,000 with a nice yard, and a townhouse would go for about 350,000 with a decent yard for a townhouse. Depending on your budget, you may want to look into Lorton, or even Springfield.

Uh, I believe she was looking to rent. I know many of the homes down in PW are quite nice, but 500,000 a month is pretty steep... :-)
