Smile Hi!

It's about time! I was just home visiting family and that Wal-Mart at the end of Sudley road has never looked worse! I was hoping I wouldn't have to come back to that...lol.

I thought people in NoVA couldn't get enough big-box stores?

I don't mind them. I guess I am too commercialized but where else would ppl shop if there weren't "big box" stores?

And I think that many are fine b/c the whole area is congested. Maybe it will help to cut down how many consumers are in the stores at any given time.

I think a super-walmart at a mall is a terrible idea. What should have happened at Manassas Mall is a complete renovation. Manassas Mall reminds me of what malls were like in the 80s....it's time for them to step into the new millenium.

And I'm with Veik...a lot of their stuff is crap. When I make purchases at Walmart, it costs me MORE because I have to go back to return the purchase because parts are missing. For example, I bought a lock set but there were no keys in it. Missing screws, no big deal. Keys? I think they should have been included lol. Had I not been a cheap skate and just went ahead and paid the extra $3 at Target, I would have been better off.

Yee-ouch-- I know that Giant, Harris Teeter, Bloom, Shoppers, et. al. are biting their TOE NAILS right about now since Wal-Mart's food prices are super duper low. Ever since I was a teenager I can remember people complaining about GIant's high prices (and now Harris Teeter's aren't so great) so with Wal-Mart's massive food department, things should become really interesting.
Speaking of the local grocery stores, don't know about you but I think $5.00 for a box of Kashi cereal (particularly when the cereal bag is only 1/2 full much like a box of potato chips) is plain ridiculous. (Just moved back up here from the Carolinas and at food Wal-Marts the same box is $2.98-3.05). So in this area I would travel out of my way to get certain non-perishable foods at better prices.

Now this will sound terrible and cryptic and contradictory: Deep down I loathe Wal-Mart because they're like the big, bad, ugly, greedy bully that moves into town and shuts down Mom & Pop stores, etc., but on the other hand we get sucked in because the prices are so incredibly lower. If Mom & Pop stores suffer I care about that but not as much w/ Giant or Harris Teeter with their ridiculous prices over the years. It'll be interesting to see their prices plummet. I mean, we're already ringing ourselves up at the self-checkouts so they should've been banking all kinds of money over the years. At Giant I've watched a SLICE OF CAKE for one sold in the bakery go from like $1.50 to $2.99-3.99!!! FOR A SLICE OF CAKE. That's robbery so, yep, I'm snickering a bit at the grocery stores in any vicinity to this new food containing Wal-Mart.

I shop at Wal-Mart all the time and the only incident I have had with them is that they didn't include screws with this bed I ordered about 4 years ago. They were really nice and sent the screws right away. But I have dealt with plenty of stores who have made mistakes like that. I think when things like that happen, I look at how the customer service is after I call them that they forgot this or that. And, of course, it can't happen too often. I wonder if it's maybe the area of the Wal-Mart that you go to?

I have lived in a few different states and shop online and Wal-Mart always does a great job getting me the stuff without issue, whether online or in the store. And they do a great job with their prices and quality of clothing for my kids. I like how fair their pricing is b/c not everyone is rich or wants to spend a lot of money on items that kids will grow out of fast or ruin. I bought all of my son's uniforms from Wal-Mart and so did my sister and he still wears some of the polo shirts a year later to his new school where they don't wear uniforms.

I don't like the shape of the jeans/pants at Wal-Mart for my kids so I usually just get their tops, underwear and pajamas from there. I only buy pjs and underwear from there. And we get toys, kitchenstuff, things like that. Nothing very important from there though, like furnitures, appliances, etc. Things like that, I want true quality and would head to the appropriate stores (e.g. Roomstore or Sears). Roomstore has really nice, quality furnite btw. Ppl sleep on it but they have the same furniture as other stores at an awesome deal. Just a tip.

PPl have to remember that it's Wal-Mart. Not Macy's or some high-end store. If your stuff is defective too often, you should complain to the manager of that Wal-Mart or try going to another Wal-Mart where the management might be different and they are on top of their game.

You are right, though. Manassas Hall is HORRIBLE. I hated it as a teenager and I still run from it as an adult, 10 years later, when I come home to visit my fam and friends. We are moving back in about a month and I don't plan to go to Manassas Hall until they upgrade it. I feel like there has been construction there for a minute and still no bright and shiny mall? What the heck?!

Manasas Hall needs a second and probably third level, escalators, elevators, designer stores and a new style overall. The style is straight out of the 80s. With all the money that I know is coming into Manassas, especially nowadays, Manassas Hall needs to get with the program and upgrade basically everything. We call it Manassas Hall b/c you can stand at one of the mall and see all the way to the other end. It's like this lame T shape...lol. I wouldn't mind seeing a Super Wal-Mart near there. I don't think it's a great idea to put it IN the mall. Maybe across the street in that rundown plaza where F&M used to be...lol. The entire area is a little congested tho so I wonder if that's why they picked the mall to account for parking... I can't imagine where they would be put a Super Wal-Mart in that vicinity if not in the mall b/c it's very congested and compact. They might have to move it back to behind the Stonewall HS area or something. Wal-Mart always needs A LOT of land.

I live in Grovetown right now and they just got a new Wal-Mart and they took up like ALL this land and built new roads to go into Wal-Mart. It's bananas! Like when Wal-Mart comes to town...it honestly can consume everything around it esepcially...lol.

Lol. Some of the stores in there are really nice...like Victoria's Secret, Charlotte Russe, and H&M. They're so nice that when you enter the store, you forget you're in Manassas Mall. I try not to go there because I don't want to bring roaches home. LOL. I was somewhat OK with the little buggers when they stayed over in the food court, but since they've migrated to other stores, I avoid the mall at all costs. I don't want anything migrating in my shopping bags! Haha.

Why am I not surprised. Ewww. Just another reason to keep Manassas Mall OFF of my list of shopping choices...lol. We were there recently and I saw H&M. I was shocked and ecstatic b/c I LOVE H&M but the roaches alone will keep me away for sure now...lol.

I use Walmart alot back in NM, and when we were doing research about moving to NOVA I was pretty bummed that there were no Super Walmarts in the area. I know alot of people cannot stand Walmart and that's okay but it works well for my family and I, and it is nice to know if we chose to come back with a permanent job that there will be Super Walmarts for me to access should I need to.

I like novachick wouldn't buy large appliances or furniture from there but the clothes are okay for us, their cleaning supplies are usually better priced that anywhere else and I like the one stop shopping the Super Walmarts afford me, saves me time, gas and money.

I was heading to the bathrooms behind the food court at the much more upscale Dulles Town Center one day, and there were a couple of roaches scampering around. I'd just eaten at the Chick-Fil-A, too. Blargh...

I tried to buy some furniture from walmart.com a few months ago. It took forever to ship, and once it finally got to me...it was the wrong item. I mean, they'd sent a tool and garden shed instead of a dresser, it wasn't even close! So I sent it back, of course. Then they couldn't send me the right item because it was "out of stock."

They refunded my money very quickly and the customer service rep on the phone was super nice and competent. But it was a really frustrating experience - I waited weeks for that darn furniture, only to not get it in the end! I'll never try that again. Sometimes saving a few bucks is not worth the hassle.
