This months issue of Washingtonian magazine has a short list of great ice cream parlors. Most are on the DC-MD side of the river and at least 2 are on Wisconsin Ave/ Georgetown.

We tried some of this ice cream a week or so ago -really, really good.

And such a nice lady at the stand .

Another vote for the Dairy Godmother in Del Ray... I've only had their non-dairy sorbets (Door County Sour Cherry and Lemon Lavender), but everyone I know says the custard is to die for. The only problem with visiting is it makes me miss the northern Midwest and its own peculiar brand of quirky/artsy Mom & Pop places, but such is life, I suppose. (ScranBarre, I think you'd really like the neighborhood, too, if you haven't already been there.)

As a Terp, I'm embarrassed that I forgot to mention this in my earlier post, but University of Maryland makes great homemade ice cream -- REAL ice cream! -- at their dairy in College Park

Ice cream is definitely in order on a day like today! Or better yet, grapefruit sorbet.

By the way, has anyone tried the ice cream at Burke Park? Is it good, or is it a better idea to visit the park and then go somewhere else for ice cream?

The ice cream is ok -- but not a destination in itself. I have yet to find ice cream in northern Virginia that is destination ice cream.
