Any Apartments <$1100?
I've done some initial research already, and I've spotted some apartment complexes that are worth seeing first hand:
- Aspen (Alexandria)
- Barcroft Plaza (Falls Church)
- Barcroft View (Falls Church)
- Southern Towers (Alexandria)
I'm looking for a one bedroom apartment that costs no more than $1,100 a month. I'm reserving an additional $200-$300 on utilities, so if utilities are included in rent then I can afford more. If anyone has good experiences with apartment communities in northern virginia in this price range can you make suggestions?
In addition, what would the commute be like from northern virginia (arlington/alexandria areas) to Rockville, MD? My work schedule is flexible, and right now it is 7am-3pm. Thanks for the help guys.

you can use w w w. r e n t. c o m to filter apartments that are in that price range and location. For the most of them, they send you a $100 visa debt card just for going through their site. I got mine about 2 months after I moved in.
As for the commute, 45-60min.

Commute: On a good day (don't expect this) 30 min., On a bad day (expect this) 45-60 min, On a really bad day (accident or road repair) 1- 1.5 hours. Alot of people here have that off schedule to avoid traffic but it has just extended our rush hour past normal city times. You might be Ok at 3 on most days.
Falls Church would be closer than Alexandria. There are some not so great areas in Falls Church and Alexandria (or in the DC area in general) so I would check out the place first to see if it fits your level of comfort neighborhoodwise. How about Tyson's Corner (a little cheaper b/c outside beltway) or Cherrydale in Arlington (If you want more nightlife).

Start looking here:
classifieds - craigslist
I personally like the Westover area, so this one looks like it would be worth checking out:
Cute and Convenient one bedroom, one bath apt. in Westover
And this one is near Ballston, and much more Metro accessible:
5 MINUTE WALK TO VIRGINIA SQUARE METRO

I think your commute is going to depend greatly on where in Arlington/Alexandria you live, and where in Rockville you work, because surface streets will add a lot into the mix. My husband works in Germantown, MD (another 10 mins up 270 from Rockville) and we live in Arlington close to GW. It takes him about 35 mins in the morning (closer to 45 in the evening, sometimes longer). It's definitely a reverse commute, GW is a breeze as is 270 (north in the am and south in the pm), it's 495 where all the back up happens on that commute. But like I said, surface streets can add a lot more time, as can 395 (which would be the case for some parts of Alexandria and Arlington).
