It doesn't have to be in arlington but near it would be good.

Hopefully others will chime in on whether or not these places are still as good as I remember them since it's been a few years:

Quarterdeck in North Arlington: Quarterdeck Restaurant
Ernie's Original Crab House in Alexandria: Ernie's Original Crab House

Not anywhere near Arlington, but a really fun destination if you want to take a short drive on a nice day is Tim's River Shore in Dumfries. It's easier to get to by water but a neat place right on the Potomac.

My favorite crab cakes are purchased on the Eastern shore. No one around here can really make them that well.

I will say that Carlyle and Mike's American Grill (Shirlington and Springfield respectively) do a nice job with their crabcakes. I hear that Clydes out in Fairfax does a great job with them too.

Tim's is a fun place to hang out at. It's been a few years since I've been though.

I haven't tried them yet, but my buddy says the crab cakes at Wegmans is pretty dang good.

I'll second the recommendation to Mike's crab cakes, they are tastey.

Having grown up in Maryland and live in Va. Maryland has the cakes. There is Captain Billy's in Fairfax but the best crab cakes I ever had was the Calvert House resturant in Annapolis and Riverdale. However, its been years sinse I've had them.

Stoney's in Calvert is also good, but quite a hike. Northern VA can't really do crabcakes "right" but I undertstand not wanting to do that drive to Calvert County. Sometimes in NOVA, you just have to settle for less than the best when it comes to crabcakes.

I often order frozen ones from The Crabcake Factory in Ocean City. They come on dry ice and they are pretty darned good!

Both are run by Great American Restaurants, which also runs Sweetwater Tavern, Silverado, Coastal Flats, and Jackson's in the Reston Town Center. Probably they all use the same recipe, as the crabcakes at Coastal Flats and Jackson's are nice as well. Not "eastern shore" nice, but still really nice.

Yeah, I knew they were all owned by the same company but the poster was asking about Arlington specifically. Is Artie's in Fairfax still part of the Great American chain?
