Bristow to dunn loring (vienna) commute?
I just recently signed a contract to purchase a single-family home in New Bristow Village. I'm moving here from Indiana and was wondering what the commute is from Bristow to Dunn Loring Metro? I will be working across from there, and the address is actually considered Vienna.
One of the guys I will be working with told me to buy a Hybrid car, as it will help with traffic on the HOV lanes on 66', however I talked with other people who told me it didn't matter, traffic stinks here on ALL lanes.
Anyone have any advice or even shortcuts I could take?
Would appreciate it!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news~Bristow-Vienna/Dunn Loring is about 30 miles. That would probably only take 45 minutes if you were not traveling between Mon-Fri from 6am-10am or home between 3pm-7pm. Otherwise, brace yourself for at least 90 minutes, assuming there are no fender benders (everyday) or construction (all the time). You might be able to find a Metro Bus that would take you to the Vienna metro stop (end of metro line) and you can take it 1 stop down to Dunn Loring. But the Metrobuses are also frequently broken down on the side of the road...Otherwise, I hope you handle stress well : )

I would reccomend a hybrid. If you're on 66 before 5:30 you'll be fine. After 5:30, it's starts to get a congested.

Probably an hour and 15 minutes in the morning, maybe longer at night. Leave for work as early as possible, say 5:30 AM, and you should be good - you'll get there so much faster. I have friends that make that drive on 66 every day, and it can be hell. I hope you have lots of patience. That 30 miles-one-way might get old fast... I've been doing a 30 mile one way commute for over a year now, and in the spring we are moving close in so my commute will be about 10 miles, and my hubby's about 14 miles.
Good luck & welcome to Virginia!

Hybrids will soon no longer have the HOV access and will be treated as any other passenger car will. Can someone write when that is? I think its Jan 2010 but not sure.
Also isn't HOV on 66 3 persons or more?

I thought it was July? Not sure if those who already have special plates are grandfathered?
HOV on 66 is only 2 people. You are thinking of 395 which is 3.

June 30, 2010. Also:
Quote:
Only hybrid vehicles with clean fuel plates issued before July 1, 2006 can use the I-95/395 HOV lanes during rush hours. All hybrid vehicles with clean fuel plates can use all other HOV lanes in Virginia during HOV hours, including I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road in Northern Virginia.
Hybrid vehicles will not be able to use the I-495 High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes for free when they are completed. Nor would they be permitted to use the proposed I-95/395 HOT lanes at no charge.

There is the Linton Hall Metro Direct. It goes through stops off Linton Hall Road and then takes you to West Falls Church Metro which is just a metro stop away from Dunn Loring. It will be like 1 hr 15 min. Probably your best and cheapest bet. $2.40 per way.

We live in Bristow and my husband does have a hybrid and drives to Tysons. He typically leaves at 6:30 am and says 66 is a parking lot from Route 50 to the beltway so hybrid doesn't matter at a certain point. He gets off at Nutley and takes the back roads thru Vienna. Kingsley to Cedar Lane to Gallows which would work for you. His average commute is 1 hour
