You can find many nice single family homes within this price range in the likes of Fairfax Station, Burke, Springfield, etc...these communities are all within easy access to Fort Belvior, and are off of route 7100 (Fairfax County Parkway). These commuties offer very nice, safe, quiete, suburban living in NoVa, and will be a short commute for you husband to Belvior.

Default Best area to live near Fort Belvoir???

Hi Cali Girl,
There are many fine new home developments in the Woodbridge area that may suit your needs. If you are comfortable with an older home, Burke, Springfield and Fairfax Station have some lovely homes in terrific neighborhoods. You may even want to consider the Stafford area for even more bang for the buck. The Virginia Railway Express north/south route offers some options from Fredricksburg, while the Virginia Railway Express east/west offers options starting in Manassas. You may want to consider housing west. There are some wonderful areas in Prince William County to consider. There is a lot to absorb, but your needs and wants can be defined and your search narrowed to help you make educated choices for comfortable living in this area.

Burke would be an option meeting your criteria.

I would definitely look at West Springfield/Burke. The new parkway extension has made the drive to Fort Belvoir much quicker and you could definitely find a nice house in an established neighborhood with good schools in either of those areas.

Burke is very nice and has many military and former military families there. Fairfax Station is a beautiful neighborhood right near Burke, but the homes are quite a bit more than $600K, more like $750K-800K. West Springfield is good, too. Both West Springfield and Burke are more reasonably priced than Fairfax Station. The schools and neighborhoods for all of these neighborhoods are excellent, among the best in Fairfax County, the crime is low to nonexistent, and the commute to Belvoir, while not as good as living right near Belvoir, is not bad at all on 7100.

FYI, your commute will be much, much shorter if you live north of the base. I live near Ballston, and it takes me 40-45 minutes. If I were you, I'd consider somewhere in Alexandria, south of Old Town. The houses aren't new, but they sure look nice. Big trees, good schools, easy commute--that's where I'd live in your situation. (My wife works in DC, so it wouldn't work for us.) Good luck.

I really doubt the OP is going to follow your recommendations at this point.

It's only been four years. Maybe they are picky or just very selective!

Sigh. I never looked at the date of the first post. Maybe CD should have threads automatically close to new posts after a few months.

Another member revived the thread with a Fort Belvoir-related question. I moved it into its own thread so as to not get it confused with this one. While this thread is still relevant, there may be some details that are slightly outdated. For that reason, I agree that this thread should be closed.
