I've spent the past few minutes skulking around the web site of the Herndon Festival (which is going on this weekend, by the way, for those interested) in order to learn more about Sunday's 10k race that I'm thinking of participating in, and I was dismayed to see a list of food vendors in which the only pizza offered was Domino's and Papa John's!
While that's not exactly "awful" pizza (I'm a fan of the cheesy bread at Domino's, actually), back home in Scranton, PA we had little mom-and-pop pizza joints on practically every corner, each using their own special ingredients, sauces, and cheeses to create unique flavors. So far I've been INUNDATED with coupon mailings and advertisements for local businesses seeking to woo my dollars, but once again I've only received stuff for chain pizza places.
Is "good pizza" unheard of in the NoVA 'burbs?
Do all of you people actually PREFER Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, etc. over any local places? You have delicious restaurants for every ethnicity and nationality imaginable, but I have yet to drive by a tempting pizzeria (preferably even one with al fresco dining!) Please help!!!

Originally from northern NJ, so feel your pizza pain. We like Mama Lucias, but also try Lucias (different place) at Fox Mill Shopping Center. Best we've found down here is Italian Store in Arlington.

Take it from another NEPA transplant...you won't find too many places with pizza anywhere near the quality from back home and certainly not near NJ/NY quality. It's very hard to find pizza by the slice in this area also. Rubino's in Herndon has it.

Rubino's is nice. For pizza by the slice there's also "Zpizza" in Herndon. Its next to Moby Dick in the Harris Teeter Plaza (Woodland crossing).

While that's not exactly "awful" pizza (I'm a fan of the cheesy bread at Domino's, actually), back home in Scranton, PA we had little mom-and-pop pizza joints on practically every corner, each using their own special ingredients, sauces, and cheeses to create unique flavors. So far I've been INUNDATED with coupon mailings and advertisements for local businesses seeking to woo my dollars, but once again I've only received stuff for chain pizza places.
Do all of you people actually PREFER Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, etc. over any local places? You have delicious restaurants for every ethnicity and nationality imaginable, but I have yet to drive by a tempting pizzeria (preferably even one with al fresco dining!) Please help!!!
