I would only recommend they Tysons corner area for people with loads of money to spend. I've worked in that area for four years but I live in Maryland. I once considered moving there but the cost is way too much. Ballston is pretty good but I'd say Arlington is a better bet especially if you are a young professional.

Soho, the commute from the great place you found in Pentagon City/Crystal City would be about 5-10 minutes longer by car (via 110 north to 66 west) in the morning than leaving from Ballston. There would be no stoplights once you get on 110 and it is never backed up with traffic like 66 can be, so you can go at a good speed. It's a great area in which to live, close to shopping, closer to Old Town Alexandria than N. Arlington, etc., but less convenient to hip bars and restaurants than Clarendon, although there are some in the area. There are plenty of people in your age group who live there as you can see when grocery shopping. However, the main advantage of that location is for people commuting into DC rather than into Tysons. So you would be paying a premium (since they're willing to pay it for their convenience) that you really wouldn't use for work purposes anyway.
