Looking for a place to move in NOVA...will be working in Old Town... have a young daughter - a little over a year old so schools will be a factor in the future. No plans to move, so will be here long term. Looking a single family house (if possible). Right now, budget between $400-$425K for house.

Done some preliminary research and for a SFH....either have to purchase an older house in not the best neighborhoods or have a helluva of a commute.

Any suggestions? Maybe purchase a townhouse and hopefully be able to sell in 5 or 6 years? I know...good luck trying to time the market.

Try the Kingstowne community in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County. I would predict that some THs may have fallen into your range.

Also Burke has been mentioned before on this forum as a relatively undervalued/undiscovered area. Don't know what the TH situation is there but that might be worth looking into.

You could definitely get a SFH over in Prince William County... but then there's the I-95/I-66 conga line if you don't have flex-time.

If it were me, I would look at Burke only because the schools are so good. I've lived in Burke twice before and we are moving back in just a couple of weeks. My sisters both went to High School in Burke...one went to Braddock and the other went to Robinson. They are both excellent. I haven't heard anything bad about either one.

You may be thinking of Cameron Station?

It's a really nice area of townhomes that will definitely be convenient to Old Town. However, I'm not sure that the asking prices will be in your preferred range. I would be surprised if they're under $500K.
