The guy who did it is a nutcase and a racist. His website is full of racist and anti-semitic remarks. It is a real tragedy, that's for sure. Very sad that the guard died in the line of duty. This person should be locked away for the rest of his life. That won't be hard to do - he is 88 years old! He walked into the Federal Reserve building back in 1981 with guns - and was put away for 11 years. Too bad they let him out. You can find his website by searching on his name, which is posted in a bunch of news accounts. I'm not going to put his name or his website here - he is a vile human being.

The Holocaust Museum is going to be closed tomorrow in memory of the slain guard. Originally, before he died, they were planning to be open for business as usual.

What is going on? Just late last night, here in Southern VA where i'm vacationing, a guy under 25 who was never in trouble with the law and actually trying to do positive things with his life was gunned down during a power outage when he was just trying to get some fresh air outside.

People who are just trying to live their lives right getting murdered for no reason. Just aint right.

The DC security guard who was shot was only 39 years old. Apparently he and another guard were able to shoot the gunman, preventing him from taking even more lives.

My heart goes out to all of the innocent people who have been hurt by this horrible act.

The gunman is a hateful man and if any of you have read up on him, none of this seems very surprising. He was in prison for attempting to kidnap the board of the Federal Reserve in '83 and he wrote a hate spewing book about Jews...vile man.

Such a tragedy. The guards are real heroes. They prevented a much larger tragedy from happening.

This is very sad. I refuse to go to his website and would encourage everyone else to resist the urge as well. Why give him the satisfaction of all the "hits" on his site? What a sick, sick individual. It is sad they admit he was a threat all this time yet was allowed out of jail and was able to commit another crime, this time with tragic consequence. My heart goes out to the family of the guard.

I decided to go into DC and visit one of the museums today. Granted, it's not much of a statement, but you just know the news stations will be looking at museum attendance today, trying to make a story that people are now scared or something like that. So it's my little way of showing that racist jerks won't stop me from ordinary activities. Think I'll make a point of going to the Holocaust Museum when it reopens, too.

Attributed to Martin Niemoller, there are many versions of this and they all give me goose bumps. We should always be alert to the beginnings of "groupthink".
