Default Areas to live in Front Royal/Winchester?

I am moving from Hampton Roads, my wife has a job in Winchester and I will be working in Front Royal. We are looking at rural property, one of which is Apple Mountain Lake, Another in Shenandoah Farms, some others in different places. Does anybody have any advice?

I have a home on 1.25 acres just outside Middletown, near Reliance. Pretty area, in between Front Royal and Winchester.
Looking to sell if you're interested.

I am buying a house in Winchester too. Downtown historic area. We enjoy walking to the shops and restaurants. The people seem very friendly in this area. Happy house hunting!

First question: DO YOU HAVE A FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE?

It is imperative that you do if you are planning on living in any of the neighborhoods you listed... They're nice, but can be a bit remote feeling.

Shenandoah Farms and Apple Mountain are hit or miss. DEFINATELY look at the areas closely before buying anything.... That said, they are potentially beautiful areas....

My recommendations? I kind of like the High Knob suggestion, it's like the two you are talking about, except with an HOA that keeps the ugliness to a minimum... Someone mentioned the Reliance Rd area between Middletown and Front Royal which is BEAUTIFUL, but pretty pricey as well....

I like Strasburg personally. It's just it's own little town that does it's own thing and has some decently priced houses that have great views of Signal Knob and the Massanutten Mountain.... Middletown is also nice.

I personally live in Stephens City, just south of Winchester, but I'd suggest there if you still had kids in the house as it's more of the family-oriented town in the area....

Anyway, lot's of choices for you. We LOVE the area and wish you luck in the move...
