Addresses that offend people
Route 1 is a major thoroughfare in NoVA. Through Arlington and, I think, parts of Alexandria, it is referred to as Jefferson Davis Highway. Does this bother anyone, or am I overly sensitive? I've pretty much ruled out any of the rentals along that stretch of road that pop up in my search results. I know that Virginia is part of the old South, but why would such a progressive area right outside our nation's capital want to pay homage to a traitor of the United States?
Has anyone else ruled out entire neighborhoods because of what you would have to type in the "address" line?

If you think like that then there are more streets to worry about, anything that starts with Lee, Lee Hwy, Lee Chapel Road...on and on...ancient history. But I woudn't live on Jeff Davis hwy for more reasons than that. Traffic for one.

Well, I don't mind eating at Ceasar's Pizza or Genghis Khan Restaurant. So why should I worry about a street name?
OTOH, I do recall thinking twice when we looked at a house on Lawyers Lane (right next to a big sign advertising the area as Money Acres, LOL!) I thought "Hmmm.... someone might get angry at his lawyer and take it out on my house!"

Hahaha! Anyway, I thought this was more about "why do people who live in Leesburg insist on putting Lansdowne as their address if they live in that neighborhood". Or "Potomac Falls (20165)" instead of Sterling, "Brambleton" or "Broadlands" instead of Ashburn, etc. That makes me laugh, too. Sorry to highjack the thread...

No, I wouldn't not consider it. But as a Northerner (originally from Philadelphia), it did take some getting used to. As a child I grew up thinking "we" won the war (even though my ancestors didn't live in the US until the late 1800's, well after the civil war ended). So when I see all of the Robert E. Lee stuff and other southern civil war names, it seemed strange to me. I particularly remember a neighbor of mine from India whose son dressed up as Robert E. Lee for Halloween. He was very proud of his costume. I thought that was very funny. And while I don't think of this area as "The South" there are still some influences that cannot be avoided. For the most part, though, this area reminds me of the mid-Atlantic.

You didn't hijack the thread at all. I actually had to go to Sterling yesterday and the person told me "Potomic Falls" which does not exist in my GPS. So Potomic falls is an alias???? WTF. It should be called "Potomic Sprawl"

These don't offend me but I find them funny. "Redrum Dr" and "Tobacco Sq", both in Ashburn. I don't understand why one would be offended by street names, the names are part of history.

Redrum is sort of a creepy name, though... do the little kids who live there start talking like the possessed child in The Shining? If you drive in reverse down the street, does that mean you're about to commit a murder? And if a murderer ends up living there, will people say he was attracted to the name?
