We are moving back to NOVA (lived in Burke a few years back for a short time) and have been narrowing down some areas in the Alexandria/Fairfax. Schools are no longer an issue for us personally but resale is always a consideration. We have only looked on line at this point but have seen some town homes in some areas that look promising.. Any insight to the advantages/disadvantages to areas around Kingstowne, Island Creek, Potters Glenn for example would be most appreciated.

Thanks

When ever anyone asks about NOVA from my personal experience I would recomend Fredericksburg it had very cheap houses(in comparison to the rest of NOVA of course) There is so much to do the houses are neat and the culture is diverse also, it seems that for NOVA it is a pretty safe place to live a good spot for families and plenty of bars and pubs for the active adults. keep in mind if you want a cheap place to live or a safe place to live you might want to consider a different state but if you dont mind a little bit crime hear and there and you have good highpaying jobs go for it there plenty of excitment.

Hope it helps

Nick, your advice here as on at least one other thread doesn't even answer the OPs questions. Fredericksburg is not northern VA. The OP obviously knows the areas they are interested in. My son lives in Kingstowne and it's a very nice area. It's convenient to shopping and good schools. I don't know anything about the other areas. It's also very convenient to DC, Old Town, and lots of other diverse shopping, restaurants, recreation, etc.

I'm not familiar with Potter's Glen either, but Island Creek at least is a part of greater Kingstowne/Franconia. It's on the west side off Beulah Street, and is tucked into the woods of Amberleigh Park (county parkland) along Long Branch. It would otherwise have all the advantages of the Kingstowne area generally, which as you say, are significant...
