Default Renting while house hunting-school district question

How difficult will it be to rent while house hunting keeping in mind trying to maintain the same school district?
We like the Vienna area and are thinking we may have to rent first just because our timeframes seem to be getting narrow.
My concern is that I don't want to have my 8th grader get used to a school and make friends then be uprooted to another district.
Are schools good about letting you keep your child in for the remainder of the year or if you are out of the zone, must you go to the new school?
Thanks for your thoughts.

You can stay until the end of the year, but you will have to provide your own transportation. Most Fairfax schools are pretty good about out of boundary pupil placements.

I would normally say that renting is a good idea but right now it may not be because of rising interest rates. My dh is an economist and he agrees with many of the other economists who think that interest rates will continue to rise over the coming year. Prices in Vienna may well be at their lowest, or very, very, close to it. Combine that with rising interest rates, and two moves, you might want to find a house to buy now. Just my thoughts.

I spent the last 25 years in Vienna, raised two kids there. Feel free to pm me.
