Default Cost of homeowners insurance?

Just wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of what annual homeowners insurance would be on a $500K house in fairfax county? Probably Burke, Springfield, or fairfax station. Just a basic policy - nothing fancy. We would also be insuring 2 cars with the same company (probably will go with state farm or allstate) for a small discount.

I've been estimating $1500/ year for just the homeowners, but I could be way off base. Thanks for any insight!

I live in W. Springfield and have auto and home insurance through GEICO. My home is worth about $450k; I pay $635 annually. Each of my vehicles cost from $400 to $560 annually with a $500 deductible.

Wow - that's cheap. Way cheaper than where I live now (Louisiana). Good to know - thanks!

Default Also

Also, keep in mind that the following (there are many more but here's a few) things will even LOWER the home insurance rate:

-- close proximity to a fire hydrant/fire house
-- any type of home alarm system.

Our policy is just shy of $700 a year. That covers about 350K in personal property and about 500K for the structure of the house, independent of the land value.

Doesn't frequency of hurricanes make home insurance higher in Louisianna?

the house i just sold in Springfield was 500k+ and it was less than 600/yr through USAA.

Yep - big time! We have a $10,000 deductible for hurricane damage to try and keep costs down. Car insurance is rediculous too. Trippled when we moved to LA from NE. Sounds like that will be going down as well.
