Been searching high and low for a company offering children's transportation services. Anybody know if such a service exists here in NoVa? Looking for something along the lines of Busy Kids Cab in New York or Kids on Wheels in Dallas. I need to transport my kindergartener to gymnastics twice a week (Fairfax to Burke). Thanks for any leads!

I have never heard of such a thing...but sounds like a great business idea. Maybe you can check with the gymnastics class, maybe others will be going in the same direction for the same class.

You could try Angels at Your Service -- they are based out of Alexandria. I have used them in the past for brief periods. You may also want to consider posting something on Craigslist and perhaps you could get a college student for a lower cost.

He has to be dropped at school at 9:00 am Monday through Friday, and picked up at 1:25pm on Mondays, 3:55 pm Tuesday to Fridays. Please let me know at your earliest convenience whether you would be able to provide the service, the cost as based on your response, we have to make some decisions pretty soon. Maybe its just me, but finding someone to take your kid away from you on craigslist doesn't seem like the best idea in the world.

Nannies/families seeking nannies post on craigslist all the time. They also post on other area boards (such as but not limited to DC Urban Moms). It's hardly unheard of, and people usually do reference checks because not doing so would not be "the best idea in the world."

When I was in college, I did this for a family. I picked three kids up from 2 separate schools, and either delivered then to various activities or brought them home for homework. I stayed with them until about 6:30, when the parents arrived home.

I got the job via the university's student employment office. I'm sure many students would like a few extra bucks doing nothing more difficult that driving someone around. I, personally, also enjoyed having the dedicated study time for myself.

I came across this thread when I was having a similar issue. Springfield Yellow Cab will transport kids at the driver's discretion. I have an 8 year old and they said "no problem, we take much younger to and from school all the time".

Exactly, and SYC also provides transportation for some of the students in the Phillips Programs, who have been know to spit, dump, kick, and headbang in their perspective vehicles.
