I'm wondering if Northern VA or DC has playgrounds with water features? Not pools, but in ground fountains and/or sprinklers for the kids to splash in along with swings and slides, etc. Like this:

Hayes Park in Arlington is good. It's across from Arlington Science Focus school.

HAYES PARK : Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources : Arlington, Virginia

ETA: Almost forgot Lyon Village Park, also in Arlington:

If you prefer sprinklers to an actual water park, check out Hayes Park in North Arlington: HAYES PARK : Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources : Arlington, Virginia

It has the sprinklers, a big sand area, swings and playground equipment. It's very shady.

Thank you! I was looking for sprinklers, not water parks. I appreciate it.

Here's another one:

Fairfax Corner Fountain

As an added bonus, the movie theater right next door has kids' movies on some mornings, and baby-day (first run movies to which you can bring your little ones) on some mornings.

ETA: Thought the address would be on that first link, but it's not. Here's another link that gives directions:

I have a 10 and 6 year old. Do you think they'd like the Corner one? Do you know what the name of the movie theater is? Thanks!

I think they'd love it! Whenever we take our little guy over there (he'll be two in September) we see everything from brand new walkers to teenagers. There's lots of shopping and fun kicking around to do over there too, so if you go over to check it out and your kids don't care for it, it at least won't be a wasted trip.

The movie theater is the Fairfax Corner Cinema De Lux. Don't know if it applies to you, but they give a very nice military discount.

Pirates Cove Waterpark in Lorton, Atlantis Waterpark at Bull Run in Manassas, another one in Woodbridge - forget the name - this one is the best for toddlers.
Look on the Fairfax County and the Prince William County park websites.
