Lots of humidity! Does anyone know whether Virginia/DC is an area that triggers allergies (ie. high allergen count). If you have allergies, do you find that living in this area makes your symptoms worse?

How is the weather throughout the year? Are there more sunny days or gray, overcast days

Default Allergies

Yes, this area is typically very humid. Weather.com has diffent pollen counts during the heavy times of year, especially in spring.

When I first moved here I had a terrible problem w/allergies (came from Pittsburgh) - allergist told me this is one of the worst places to live for allergies (who knows?) - That being said, I got shots and am fine now except for when it's really bad ragweed, etc. and even then it's not awful.

I suffer from allergies and asthma. My "maintenance meds" are stronger every time I live in this area. Even my husband and daughter suffer from seasonal allergies here. They never did in Seattle.

Welcome to Virginia! Although, since I have been in Florida mine are terrible. Especially in December.

There is a balance. Sometimes however, it rains for two or three days and it sucks. Overall the Summer is horrid like Florida, the winters are medium, but I hate cold and it gets downright FREEZING in December, January, February and March. The snow is hyped so much it is embarassing. The only big snow we had was the blizzard of 96 and it was awful. I know this stuff because it is my home. Sometimes the weather is downright strange. Once in awhile it will be 70 or 80 in February or March and it snowed for the first time in December that I remember last year. Funny that it did this the day before I moved to Florida!

The weather can be strange sometimes but I have to say the weather this year has been wonderful, NOT the horrible humid summer like usual, granted there were some days, but nowhere near the usual, the last couple winters have been very mild (so that probably means we are due for a big one). Any day that I can open up the windows and not rely on heat/ac - is a good day

Virginia is a beautiful place but those beautiful Oak, Birch and Elm trees cause lot of pollen and misery!

I have lived all over, moved here from FL where the pine bothered everyone but me. Ditto all the other places. One of those places was called "sinus Valley". Another one (overseas) wouldn't let anyone with severe allergies move there it was so bad. But living here has been the worst. My husband has chronic allergies and they are much worse here. No one can seem to find the right meds for him. I just suffer! But I must say this past summer was absolutely wonderful. Moving here from FL and 90% humidity I thought it wasn't hot even when it was the hottest on record or whatever. It was low on the sweaty factor! But I have lived here before, so I know better.

When I come to visit the DC area, my allergies act up. Is it just me or anyone experience this?
My sinuses start, wheezing, runny nose. The DC area isn't even in the top areas for allergies!
