Somebody mentioned St. Elmo's Fire in another thread and that brought back a wave of memories. I remember seeing that before we moved here and not wasting time following the plot. I was too busy checking out DC! I was picturing myself acting like Demi Moore...chatting with a girlfriend while walking along the river in Georgetown. We also rented True Lies and Murder at 1600 because they had scenes around the area. But my favorite movie for getting a glimpse into life in the DC metro area was Dick.

What movies about living in the DC metro area do the rest of you like?

My favorite is "No Way Out"....because I was in it!

I was an extra in a crowd scene shot in the Pentagon. Unfortunately, Hollywood never called....

I might have been in "The Exorcist" too......I was driving on Prospect St NW while they were shooting a street scene, and I saw the camera pan in the direction I was going. Never could pick out my car in the movie though.

I think my all-time favorite movie shot in DC was 1958's "Houseboat" with Sophia Loren. There was a great scene shot on the River just above Memorial Bridge where they used to have a orchestra barge that gave free concerts in the Summer. I remember those concerts well.....but as jet planes proliferated....it got too noisy, and another DC tradition died. The steps from which the audience watched are still there...

That was you?!?

"No Way Out" was one of my favorites too. Except that the subway scenes weren't filmed on Metro. I couldn't figure out how another city's subway goes to the Old Post Office. I also like diving on the Whitehurst like Kevin Costner did.

That has the renowned Georgetown Metro stop in it (right after he jumps off the WH freeway). I believe they used Boston's subway because DC Metro wouldn't allow filming.

LOL, you know I've never seen this flick. Maybe I'll rent it tonight. Seems like it's a good night for a movie.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951, not the remake).

I like the scene in St. Elmo's fire where Robert Downey, Jr.'s character is up on stage in a bar playing an alto sax with some synthtastic '80s pop band (he was supposed to be the "cool" one in the group of friends, IIRC) and his "keying" (if such you could call it) bears absolutely no relation to the sax part in the song. Odds are that scene was filmed in L.A., though, and not D.C. Oh well - at least it was supposed to be in D.C. Hee.
