All public schools in Virginia have to wait until after Labor Day to start. It's the law, referred to as the "Kings Dominion Law" since the tourist industry got it passed.

[quote=Stephen 81;9911988]I would agree with Jeb77 about Arlington schools. Looking at the elementary and middle school school boundary maps, if you are living near an Orange line station in Arlington, your children will attend good schools (Key, Taylor or Ashland Elementary; Williamsburg or Swanson Middle).

No Ashland in Arlington....probably referring to Ashlawn, which is a great school. As are the others actually...

Interesting to know that. Where I grew up we always started school the Wednesday after Labor Day so I like the law of waiting until the holiday to start. School in August just doesn't sound appealing to me.

Well we have narrowed down our living areas and it looks as though the kids will either go to Key Elem, Williamsburg Middle and Yorktown HS or if we end up near Pentagon City it looks as though they will go to Oakridge, Gunston and Wakefield. I am still maintaining that the worst school in Arlington would be heads above what we have here.
