Looking for Neighborhood bar - Chantilly, Fairfax, South Riding area
Hey!
Looking for a neighborhood bar the husband & I could go to in Chantilly, Fairfax, South Riding area. Like in "Cheers".
Haven't found a restaurant we feel has the right atmosphere. So, thought about asking the best folks in the NOVA area. You all. Any ideas?
Travel channel shows places on TV that look exciting. Mostly in far away places like NYC, Chicago, or LA.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, Virginia doesn't have a 'neighborhood tavern' culture like the one I grew up with in an industrial Midwestern city. Taverns, at least as I've come to know them, really don't exist here. That doesn't mean you can't find one in the area. I'm sure 'cheers' type places exist, but you're more likely to find them inside the beltway. All drinking establishments in the area are required by law to sell food, so you're more likely to find a good bar attached to a restaurant. You have to remember that, historically, Virginia had typical Southern state 'blue laws' regarding alcohol. That didn't change in Northern Virginia until the mid-1970's, but all establishments serving alcohol are still required to have a certain percentage of sales in food. Does anyone know the percentage ratio? I forgot. Anyway, good luck with your search.

I used to live in South Riding and loved it there (thinking of moving back actually). They don't have the best bars but there are two which my husband and I used to go to. One was the South Riding Inn which is a locally owned pub in the center of South Riding which has a regular crowd there and another was The Firkin Hound which is in the other South Riding shopping center (The Marketplace). It's a pretty chill vibe and the bar area is very cozy. Good luck!

I was going to suggest South Riding Inn...definitely a neighborhood kinda place although I wouldn't say it's like Cheers, lol. Firkin & Hound is no longer in business.

What about Jackson's in Reston Town Center? Or the Auld Shabeen in Fairfax City?

Sign of the Whale, in Falls Church is a neighborhood bar that I used to visit when I lived there. Everyone knows everyone there!
