Default relocating- help!

My husband and I have 2 weeks to relocate from AZ to VA. We are searching for a safe, new, bug free, quiet apartment complex or rental property. I'm going nuts because after finding rental website that look fabulous, i read reviews that indicate car break-ins, false fire alarms, vandalism, murder, loitering are common occurences in all of them!!!!!!!

I'm looking for tips from those who have had good experiences around Reston, Herndon, Worldgate, McNair Farms, or Fairfax...

Thank you for your help!
Kelly

Where will you be working? You should center your housing search close to your place of employment, especially when you are new and learning our legendary traffic patterns.

Reston, Herndon and Fairfax are great places if you work out that way, but if you work in Alexandria, Arlington or DC, they are not a good choice!

I don't think that's really considerate of his company to give you 14 days to move across the country. Is this a military move?

Well, the major issue is that I have to get out and find a job before school starts. That is the reason for the quick relocation.

My husband is working in Dupont Circle. My parents actually live in Ashburn. The reason for choosing Reston/Herndon/Fairfax/Chantilly/etc is so that we can visit friends and family regularly in Loudoun and be close to my work (which will be somewhere in Fairfax Co. and the Metro Station at Vienna)

poor guy. It's going to be a heck of a commute for him. Have you considered living in Burke? It's close to the VRE Train

So here's what I see:

Your husband: Dupont Circle, Monday thru Friday business hours
Your parents: Ashburn
Your job: Could be any of the school systems (Arlington, Alexandria or Fairfax) right?

What if you rented closer to DC in say Arlington or Falls Church? Your husband would be close to his job (unless you are going to your parents everyday, the Dupont Circle job should be the #1 consideration) and then you could drive in the opposite direction of traffic for your job should it be in Fairfax.

The commute into DC from outside the Beltway is something to really, really give thought to. That 75-90 minute commute just weighs on you. Also, this area is a little more fast-paced than Arizona and at the end of the day, you just want to go home and relax. The commute thing gets old real quick after 25 minutes.

Good luck to you!
