Default Lakes, Ponds, Recreation Areas

We are possibly relocating to northern VA and the DC area and are looking for new home sites that may be near a water recreation area that has ponds, lakes, etc where the homes are being bulilt. We are looking from DC to Woodbridge, Springfield, to Manassas. Thanks for any ideas.....

Fairfax County lakefront parks:
Lakefront Parks, Fairfax County Park Authority

Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority -- you can view by activity, including boating:
NVRPA (http://www.nvrpa.org/html/index.php?pg=searchactivity.html - broken link)

If I did not work in Arlington (and my spouse on Capitol Hill), as a boating enthusiast I'd be living somewhere near Pohick Bay.

If you don't need to commute to a job, I'd suggest Lake Anna. Lake sites closer to the DC metro area are hard to find and expensive. If you simply want a water view, and don't care about boating, you can find some homes along streams (we call them runs here), as well as the little ponds that developers sometimes build. But I wouldn't call those recreation areas.
