They have excellent prices on some things, but I find very high prices on other things, especially their prepared food. I prefer smaller supermarkets where everything is easy to find and the crowds are small. That's why I like Whole Foods (at least the one in Vienna - haven't been to the big one yet). And I love the new updated Giants with the handheld scanners and how you can enter your own deli order on the computer, and they call when it's ready. While I don't dislike Wegman's I truly don't get the cult following it seems to have.
I feel exactly the same way. I do not get the Wegman's thing at all. Their cheese section is not nearly as good as Whole Food in Vienna, much less Whole Food in Fairfax. Even when Emeril and his crew aren't filming, that store is awesome.

Okay, overall I totally agree with you about the Wegmans hype (and I also love the handheld Giant scanner things), but I'm always grocery shopping in the middle of the night to avoid going with my children. So the news that we have childcare at a grocery store is huge...I am loving this thread!
Well, they have a childcare room like they do at IKEA. Yes, children have to be 3, but if they are a bit under 3 and are potty-trained, you would have no problem signing them in. Unfortunately, it's only at the Sterling location. I used to go out there when I just had one child. It was a pleasure to shop! They give you a beeper and call you if there is a problem or if the child needs the bathroom. My daughter loved going there. I haven't been there in a couple of years, though so I don't know if it has changed.
