I'm considering moving to Manassas or Woodbridge and I'm looking for public transportation ideas to commute to Washington DC (around 12th St and Constitution Ave NW).

I have yet to have a problem with the VRE. I have heard that most of the problems that people hear about are on the Fredricksburg line. From the Manassas stop, you'll be in DC in under an hour. There are some sections of Manassas (the southern parts closer to Dale City/Woodbridge) that will probably be too far from the Manassas line for you to benefit from using the VRE. As far as public transportation goes, I don't know too much about that area's accessibility. If you are living closer to I-66, then the VRE IMHO is a great option.

Remember that the last run for the VRE at "Night" is around 7pm so if you work late, you'll be stuck in DC
