Lakeside Plaza is a nice enough complex, but it's in a not-so-great location on the outskirts of Bailey's Crossroads. The residential areas of Lake Barcroft on the north side of Columbia Pike across the street are actually very nice, but Lakeside Plaza is stranded on the other side of the Pike. If I had a choice, I'd definitely go with Fairlington instead (don't know any of the other complexes).

What is the public transit like from there. I did trip plan on Metro website and it indicates the nearest bus stop is 1/4 mile away....other places I have looked at are relatively closer, any thoughts. I also see that it is street parking with no off-street parking at all....do you know if that is true.

Thanks

I do see its a bit stranded, but is the area there safe?

On a different note, some poster indicated that west of Leesburg Pkwy along columbia pike (around Lakeside Plaza on Powell Lane) is not that great of an area? Is there lots of crime there and unsafe to walk at nights?

Thanks

4600 Duke Street is right on the main drag - Duke Street, LOL - I don't live there but I own a home close. You'd be right on the Metro and Dash bus lane, convenient to many things, right across the street from Harris Teeter, Rite Aid, misc. shops. I don't think there is any particular crime problem there, I read the crime reports and I don't see any crimes, car thefts/break-ins, etc. in the area.

I think Alanboy was referring to Culmore, which is off of Leesburg Pike (Route 7), northwest of Baileys Crossroads (intersection of Route 7 and Columbia Pike). Lakeside Plaza is off of Columbia Pike, southwest of Baileys Crossroads. In any event, the latter is not an area where I'd want to walk around at night, primarily because there aren't other streets on the south side of Columbia Pike around Powell Lane and not many pedestrians on foot. I'd actually rather walk around at night in Culmore, which at least stays busy and has quite a few restaurants (Chinese, Thai, Central American, etc.) than on the isolated stretch of Columbia Pike near Lakeside.

Check here for a map for all of Fairlington Villages

Parking is primarily street parking but there is some off-street parking (depending upon where you are). Bus transportation is going to be a similar situation -- the closest stop will depend exactly where you are in Fairlington.

You may want to peruse some of the newsletters posted on the Fairlington Citizens Association web site as well as read some of the postings on the Fairlington blog.
