Hi Y'all,

We just moved into the area and are building a new home. We are in need of a good house inspector in a couple of weeks for a pre drywall inspection. I did a little research on this site and got a couple of names and needed advice. One recommended person informed me that a pre dry wall inspection runs 3-3.5 hours and he charges $200.00/hr which includes a written report (Not sure if videos or photos are included with the report.) Is that the normal rate around here for new home inspections? I guess it'll be pretty extensive since it'll run over 3 hours but the price seems a little steep. I'm from elsewhere and (though this is our first new home) normal inspections are about $300-$400 total.

Also, can anyone please recommend any other inspectors that you've had positive experiences with in building your new home?

Our new home is past the South Riding area.

Thanks much!

We built in Dominion Valley this spring and used Judy Boyles of Fairview Home Inspections for both the pre drywall and final inspection. She was very thorough and spent about 3 + hours with us in the house each time and then sent us a written report including digital pictures where necessary. The cost of the pre drywall was $295, while the final is based on the square footage of the house. Several of us in our development used her for the inspections and were very satisfied. I had gotten a quote from the firm that did my daughter's home inspection (resale) and it was quite a bit higher. If you want contact info let me know. Russ
