Is there a resource to help identify the best performing agents in a particular area [for example, by zip code]?

Looking to buy in N. Va., but selling in NW DC. It seems most of the agents around here focus on one particular area. I am better off having separate buying and selling agents given the two distinct areas?

Thanks

Yes, especially when buying you want an agent who knows the area of interest well. Even better, if they live in that area they can tell you things that are not common knowledge. Just make sure they will get along with your selling agent in D.C., it is necessary that they work well together and keep each other informed.

Interview several agents, and they'll tell you how they can be valuable. Number of sales for an agent does not always guarantee satisfied clients.

As a realtor, I've worked with many agents who are licensed in both DC and VA, but usually they specialize only in one state and keep their other state's license just in case. There are very few agents who actually know the specifics of both DC and NoVA - the laws are different, etc.

I'd recommend hiring two different agents specializing in your areas.
