How much space do you need -- apartment, townhouse, single family house? What is your housing budget? Are your children school-age or preschoolers? How long a commute can you tolerate?

Springfield and the Kingstowne area (22315) would be especially convenient to the Franconia-Springfield Metro on the Blue Line, which stops right at the Pentagon. Check into whether you can get a transit subsidy to help pay for Metro. Here's the map:

Depends on how old your kids are...We live in 22153 and LOVE it! Very convenient to both Burke and Kingstowne and a quick ride over to the Potomac Mills area as well...Great high school (West Springfield - lots of military families). We also used to live over off of Telegraph when were stationed here before and loved that area as well..Hayfield schools are good, though the high school has had some issues in the past couple of years, which is why we ended up at WSHS. Anyhow...you can always slug to the Pentagon...LOTS of commuter lots: Sydenstricker etc...Or, you can pick people up at the slug lines and then you can access the HOV lanes straight to the Pentagon parking lot...It's a great system..Good luck!

If you live by Burke Station VRE, a metro bus picks up there and goes directly to Pentagon. I think it may be express even during rush hour. Plus, there is free parking at Burke VRE station so you can always drive there park and pick up the metro bus directly to Pentagon. Like other posters, you need to indicate budget, if school choice is of importance, and commute time desired.
