I voted yes because I think NOVA is a neat place to live. But, if I had to live here for more than about two or three years at a time, I would be very unhappy. This is the third time we have lived in the area. I'm always excited about moving back up here and always enjoy our time here...but after a couple of years, I am always more than ready to move. There is so much great about this area...but it's just too fast paced for me. I'm always ready to return to a more "normal" lifestyle.

Yes, I am very happy to live in a highly evolved society and the great pleasure of having to sit in hours of traffic!

I've been here almost a year and I dig it. Well Ashburn at least, there are other parts that I wouldn't want to stop to get gas at noon.

Glad to hear that you like Ashburn. Would you mind sharing what areas make you uncomfortable?

Default NoVA is very generic to me...an amalgam of everything

I voted NO in this poll. And I agree with a few of the other posts that say this area doesn't offer much with respect to anything being "distinctly DC." I take that back, DC has monuments and go-go. Yes, there are a million restaurants, but there are only a few standouts. Everything else that's in NoVA/DC you can pretty much find anywhere in America. The only thing with DC is that it's a rand-o combination of EVERYTHING which makes it hard for the area to be known in particular for ANYTHING. There's no real hospitable charm like you find a couple of hours south in Richmond. There's no cool underground music scene or culinary specialties like you find 45 minutes north in Baltimore. This area really is very generic.

The one thing that makes this area stand out is its job market. Which has been a wonderful opportunity to gain skills and set up a comfortable future. However, everything else, I could take it or leave it, and honestly after 8 years I'm ready to leave it. For anyone else who thinks similarly to the way I do (which happens to be MANY people I've talked to), I recommend thinking of what qualities/amenities you want in your next town and also think about the cons of living in that particular area. In my case, I'll miss the melting pot environment in DC, but I love southern hospitality and sunshine much more, which is why I'm taking my hard-earned DC skills somewhere south!
