If you want to order a local turkey for Thanksgiving, your options are relatively limited. The two that I know of have deadlines coming up.

Local Flavor LLC in Rappahannock County has just a few fresh, free-range turkeys for November and December deliveries in Loudoun – deadline to order is noon Oct. 28. In other words, tomorrow. For info: The Local Flavor - Farm Buyer's Club

Local Flavor’s marketing arm, the Farm Buyers Club, distributes turkeys from Ayrshire Farm in Loudoun County and from True Grit Farm in Rappahannock County.

Elaine Boland’s Fields of Athenry Farm near Middleburg is another option. They'll take 5 percent off the cost of any turkeys ordered by Nov. 2. Call the farm at 540-687-3936, or order online Fields Of Athenry- Home. Orders can be picked up at the farm on Snickersville Turnpike the week of Thanksgiving.

Support our local farmers, having farms in Northern Virginia is one more thing to give thanks for.

Hmmm, I wonder how free range turkey tastes around here? I've only had free range turkey in the Philippines and it was a little stringy considering the turkey was sort of old - lol
