I just relocated to Northern VA last month; where do everyone go to mingle and meet new people? I'm in my early 30s, no children, and make 6 figures. A friend recommended that I go to Arlington...it was a very young college crowd. I did check out the Reston Town Center but the people there were pretty old. So where do all the professionals in their 30s hang out?

My place? Just kidding. Have you tried Mike's American Grill in Arlington? I just go there to eat as I'm married but it seems to be a fairly young/professional crowd in the lounge area. Plus it's non smoking, even at the bar.

You may also want to try Old Town Alexandria. It's popular with many 30somethings, whether single or coupled. King Street is the main drag although you can sometimes find places nearby as well. Off the top of my head, I think you might be interested in Las Tapas, Cafe Salsa, Majestic, Vermillion and Union Street Public House. The most concentration of bars and restaurants are on the last few blocks before the waterfront.

I'm so out of touch but do 30-somethings actually *meet* new friends/acquaintances at a bar? I can't imagine going to a bar and hoping to meet up with potential buddies. But, what do I know since I'm 40.

Christine, I figured that the OP would probably take a wing(wo)man with her from work or something along with her. I agree that it would be difficult to find wholly platonic friends all alone in a bar situation.

I'm sure that there are other places scattered around the NOVA burbs, but it seems that at least on this side of the Potomac, Old Town Alexandria is the "place to be" for socially active people above 30.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The Orange Line in Arlington (Clarendon, Ballston, Courthouse, etc.) is more for 20s. In Old Town Alexandria you have more "old money" 30 to 40 professionals.

Yup. One could almost say that many of those 20something NOVirginians that stick around long enough would "graduate" (gravitate?) from the Orange Line to Old Town Alex.

Check out Caribean Breeze in Arlington Virginia. Great crowd on Fridays and Saturdays.

I'm mid-30s and go to Arlington all the time. Ballroom and Mr. Days are definitely young, but O'Sullivans, Kitty O'Sheas, 11th, 4 Courts plenty of 30+.
