I recently got a job offer at the Northern Virginia college university. I will need to commute from home so I can help my wife with the Kids. That is stay at home at night while she goes to work. I need info on how I can commute by train to Northern Virginia from Union Station. I need to resume work by 9;00AM. I also do not want to spend more than $500/month on transportation. I have a week from today to accept the job offer.

Pls help.

That is one heck of a commute. Good luck with it and I hope it works out.

Hoping you plan to relocate your family closer maybe Fredricksburg some time in the near future.

At which NOVA campus will you be working?

If you can drive to Fredericksburg, you can catch the Virginia Railway Express to Union Station... although you'll probably want to get off at either the Lorton, Franconia/Springfield or Alexandria stations, depending on your ultimate destination.

Good luck with that...that's a really long commute. Easily two hours, if not two and a half, and that's if everything is moving. I would try the commute once realistically, getting there at 9:00 a.m., etc. and see what it entails before accepting the position. I used to live in Richmond, I'm thinking there is a daily Amtrack train to DC/NOVA leaving out of the Amtrack station on Staples Mill???

My professor used to make the opposite commute (DC -> Rich) and you could tell it was draining. Good luck!

That is some commute. Once you get to Union Station you can take the Metro to some NOVA locations. On what campus will you be working? Check this info. Metro - Rail - Maps - Rail/Google Map
