Default ANOTHER commuting question - Fairfax City to Old Town Alex

Hello all,

Considering a purchase in Fairfax City (ie Main Street area) and work in Old Town Alex. How long would you guess commute...leave "regular time"...7:30AM to and 5:30ish back home.

Best route? Take Beltway (against traffic?) or maybe 236/Duke all the way in?

I am guessing around 45 minutes(on a good day...perfect weather, no accidents) but not sure.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

It won't be against traffic, that's for sure. Going straight 236 will have many lights, and a lot of sitting as you go through Annandale.

You could also go east on 50 and choose a variety of ways to cut over to Alexandria, including Route 7 (traffic!) or Annandale Rd to Sleepy Hollow Rd to Columbia Pike to Lincolnia Rd to Duke St (236).

I'd opt for the Beltway.

Nearly every time I've had to get from Alexandria to Fairfax, or vice versa (often coming home from the west and I-66 gets jammed at Ffx, so I ditch the hwy for side roads), I have hated it.

High-five! Another Ffx City fan! (I'm not supposed to be talking about Ffx City, since my roomie thinks it may have some slight effect on the prices of homes there , but it's hard to resist, sometimes. )

I agree with this, avoid going 236 all the way, if you can. I took this route at rush hour a couple of weeks ago (my GPS wasn't working and it was the only route I knew for sure without help) and it was AWFUL. It took me an hour to go 3 miles, or something like that.

Did you bid on the same house that I bid on? Are you First time buyer? I am suffering since I can't compete with first time buyers. I have made 11 offers and only 2 passed but the inspection was awful so I backed down.
