Keep in mind that the schools that offer full day K tend to be the lower performing schools...

Perhaps in some larger districts, but there are smaller school districts that have transitioned to all-day kindergarten for all elementary schools.

That was where the full day kindergartens started. Just with a quick check I came up 99 elementaries currently offering full day, many of which are not low performing.

Yes, and that includes a few in Vienna such as Westbriar.

Smile Hi!

I'm going to check out Live_strong28's Vienna, Westbriar Elementary school and your website! Awesome. It's quite a few choices. I have to start to try and narrow things down so we can choose a place to live and get moving...lol.

Default McKinley Rocks!

We live in the Dominion Hills neighborhood (Arlington). Our elementary school sounds like it has a lot of what you are looking for: full-day KG, Spanish 3x a week starting in KG, art and music classes twice a week each, very active PTA, great test scores, awesome principal and teachers. It feeds to Swanson and then Yorktown, also very good schools. The neighborhood has Halloween and 4th of July parades plus a summer barbeque. You can walk to Upton Hills pool/minigolf/batting cage or join the DHRA pool. Lots of playgrounds in walking distance, plus the little Westover shopping area.
We rented in Del Ray Alexandria when we first moved here and LOVED the neighborhood, but the schools...not so much.

Wow, sounds too good to be true...lol. Does that area teach Spanish up until 12th grade? And how are the home prices? We wanted to rent a TH for about $2500 until were used to the area enough to feel comfortable buying. Is the elementary and middle school immersion schools? Is that why they teach Spanish?

I have so many questions...lol. Thanks for the information, I have cut and pasted it to a Word .doc so we can start really figuring out where we want to live. We have kind of settled on Vienna so far but they don't teach Spanish from what I see.

McKinley's not an immersion school, it's a FLES school (120 minutes a week Spanish instruction). I think you could rent a townhouse or maybe even a house for $2500 in Dominion Hills, Westover, or Madison Manor - double check the school boundaries. Arlington does have two immersion elementary schools - Claremont and Key - but they are both on the lottery system. There is also a Spanish school on Saturdays run by Escuela Bolivia at Claremont for kids and adults. Arlington Public Schools | Foreign Languages
