Default Help-Received job offer with Federal Government

Please help, I am really confused if this is worth the move!! I applied and received a job offer with the federal government after just one 30 minute phone interview. It did take several months to get to the offer, but I was confused about getting the offer without a second interview or without actually taking time to visit. Is this normal? I was given about a week and a half until the start date, but I also still have to get a clearance. I am concerned about my credit being issue - how much weight will they put on this? I hate leaving a current job without knowing if this will become an issue.

It sounds like there are so many benefits to working for the government that this is hard to pass up. It is also a job that sounds very exciting and specific to my career and not just any job. The hard part is that we will have to relocate and it will take me away from my family initially. Currently our jobs do not provide a lot of stability or long term benefits or even health insurance. Please advise if it is worth the short-term pain if there is more stability in the long-term.

The hiring process in the Fed is sometimes down right ridiculous (as you mentioned, took months to apply then 30 minutes for the actual offer). I have received similar blind offer in the past too. I had to tell the HR person I can't accept/decline until I have a chance to meet with the hiring supervisor. Luckily, I am local so I called up the sup and requested a direct meeting (it's ironic that I had to ask for an interview). There is no way I would accept a job until I have a chance to meet (and evaluate) with the person (and the team) that I will work for. It's a two-way street...

Regarding your offer, will they pay for relocation? If I were you, if possible, I would come to the area and check out the office/team prior to making your decision. Good luck.
