Hamilton, VA Info???
I have been looking at homes online and have found a couple in Hamilton that I like the looks of. Can anyone give me feedback about that area? I don't have school-age children, but do want to keep schools in mind because of resale value in the future. My husband will be commuting to Herndon...how long will the drive take during rush hour? Thank you

Looking on a map, I see that Hamilton is located between Charlottesville and Richmond, neither of which are considered part of Northern Virginia. Not to mention that it would be a rather horrid commute to Herndon or anywhere north of Fredericksburg. That said, if you're still interested you may want to post this on the general Virginia forum.

F in geography for you, Tone . Hamilton is between Leesburg and Purcellville on route 7. A charming small town, no crime. I am guessing at least 45 minutes to Herndon. You will need to pick up the Greenway in Leesburg to make that time though. If you go route 7, I am guessing an hour more or less. No worries about schools, they are all good in that area.

Thanks Margery, at first I thought maybe I had looked at the map wrong. I had just told my husband that it was between Leesburg and Purcellville. So...based on the times you posted, he could expect over an hour from Purcellville and a little less from Leesburg?

I know quite a few people who have moved to Hamilton recently, they seem happy there. Here's a surprise, two of them are young single women in their late 20s. Usually the young single crowd goes for a more urban area. But both of these girls seem happy, even though I don't think there are a lot of singles in the area.
Hamilton is very pretty. Rolling hills and scenic views. Leesburg and Purcellville are the nearest big towns, although there are a few stores right there in Hamilton. Also, my favorite coffee bar. But that's about it, Hamilton's a small town. If you are an outdoors buff, there are a lot of places to hike, etc. nearby.
Commute to Herndon would probably take about 45 minutes. If you visit before buying a place, you might want to give it a test run to make sure. But traffic isn't horribly congested there (not nearly as bad as other spots in Nova), so IMO the commute would be OK.
Hamilton's right next to a historic village called Waterford. This forum just did a photo tour of Waterford, which you might find interesting. They'll give you an idea of the general area.

One thing to remember, though: Hamilton's not a preserved historic town like Waterford. It has some charming older buildings but it also has all the modern conveniences and some new buildings, too.

No, Hamilton and Purcellville are very close together, I would stick with my estimate of 45 mins if he picks up the Toll Road in Leesburg. Traffic on route 7 to the Toll road can be very congested from points west. From Leesburg to Herndon should only be half an hour because you are on the Toll Road the whole way. Any extra time would be getting from the exit in Herndon to the workplace in Herndon.

just have to comment on the multiple town names in Virginia! There are apparently three Round Hills? So odd, coming from CT where there is only one town for each name. And now two Hamiltons? Too funny!
We looked in Hamilton and liked it. It is small and to me some of the houses on the main drag looked a bit neglected. In fact there were two that we were supposed to see but just drove by and didn't even bother going in. Outside the "town" looked very nice, but no houses in our price range

Wait till you see all the Lees. Every other town, road, or point of interest seems to Lee this or Lee that.
