HELP! Middleberg, VA - NOVA
Good afternoon all,
I've been offered a position in Middleberg, VA and will be relocating from Atlanta, GA. I have NO earthly idea where Middleberg is and an apartment/rental search is turning up nothing.
What are some surrounding cities to look in? I don't mind a commute (up to 45-1hr) considering it looks as though it would be a reverse commute.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Middleburg is about 15 miles West of Chantilly. There are NO apartment complexes there. It is a very small historic town in the middle of HORSE COUNTRY. There is one gas station and one grocery store. People you may run into on a daily basis are Linda Tripp (taped Monica Lewinsky) or Robert Duvall.
You can rent an apartment in South Riding which is 20 minutes east of Middleburg on Route 50.

Don't forget Sheila Johnson of Salamander Farm, one of the richest women in America also lives in Middleburg/The Plains. Also former Senator John Warner who got one of the Mellon Farms in one of his divorces. LOTS of rich folks in Middleburg. There are often little houses, or carriage houses, available for rent in Middleburg. Also apartments above the stables that are quite nice, especially if you like horses. Horses in Middleburg live better than many people. Hunt Country Stable Tour Be sure to read the section on Middleburg.
>>>"Middleburg, known by Colonial Virginians in 1731 as Chinn's Crossing, was originally owned by a cousin of George Washington. In 1787, the Virginia Assembly established the town, which had become a mid-way overnight stop on the pike between Alexandria and Winchester. Fittingly, its name was changed to Middleburg. <<<
Did I mention that horses are BIG out here? My neighbor just sold a 2 year old for $35,000. And I live in the poor end of horse country!

Maybe find a place to live in Aldie - just past South Riding. Or, you could look further west. Parts of Ashburn might not be too bad for a commute.

Married? Children? Single? Budget?
If you're single I would suggest Fairfax Corner, near Fair Oaks Shopping Center in Fairfax. Lots of restaurants, shopping, some neat apartments, things to do. Rent an apartment, don't buy until you get to know the area. You don't want to live in Middleburg if single, there are no activities I know of unless you're horse crazy and want to muck out stalls for fun. I grew up on a farm and have seen enough horse manure to last me for a lifetime.

I've been out to Middleburg on the weekends, (BEAUTIFUL wine country) and it's a bit of a hike from Reston. We aren't close to 15 OR 50, but OTOH you are gong opposite traffic... so I'd say drive it once and see what you think. The other ones (Purcellville, Leesburg, Chantilly, and Manassas) are much close to the major N/S or E/W thoroughfares. (Warrenton and Winchester are "out there" in the opposite direction.)

Recently divorced... shared custody so the children (smaller) will be with my half the time (ages 3 and 4).
I'm looking to rent/lease a townhome b/c the home I'm selling is 4000 sq ft. I don't want to shock myself by going into a 700 sq ft apartment.
Thanks for all of your insight!
