Is anyone familiar with the Overlook area in Alexandria? I have been focusing on Kingstowne but have seen a few interesting places in other areas and Overlook is one of them. Thoughts?
Thanks..

I live right by there near Stevenson Square. It is a really nice area. The only trouble with it is will your children attend Alexandria city or fairfax county schools? that area is right in the city line. so watch out for that.

Thanks Alanboy. My kids are out of school but I do have to consider that for resale down the road. It is hard to narrow things down from a distance so I appreciate all of the feedback!

Default Fcps

Sorry this is so late, but I will reply anyway. Overlook is part of Fairfax. I know that because I teach at the school that Overlook children go to. It is a diverse school, but we pass all the tests. It is a great school!

Overlook is in Fairfax County; I'm not familiar with the specific neighborhood, but is it safe? Some of those apartment complexes along Edsall Road seem to have a lot of gang activity. The Kingstowne area is quite safe.

The overlook area is very safe. The Edsall Rd. apt complexes w/ gang activity are closer to 395 like the Bren Mar apts. Overlook is right on the Alexandria City line and all the gang problems on Edsall seem to minimize once you cross the city line.

Thanks. I was up there this weekend and looked at a numebr of places but did not settle on anything. We really like the Kingstowne area but the tH we looked at has some pretty strange floor plans in our opinion. We did like that area a bit more then Overlook though so we will see..

Overlook is very NICE!!! and Alexandria public school system is stellar too. You will have easy access to DC, Tyson's Corner and Old Town Alexandria.

Default it is safe

I have taught at that school for 5 years and the school is great! There are hardly any discipline problems and we pass the SOLs. The gang activity is not a major problem, the few incidences that happened were gang against gang violence, not against the public. Overlook is a very safe area and many of our students come from there.

Fairfax County has public school systems is always ranked as being one of the best public school systems in the United States. Loudon County, has a very excellent public school system too. And as a whole, the public school systems in NoVa are excellent and safe. I wouldn't be concerned about the quality of education, and saftey for your children if they attend public schools in Alexandria, Arligton, etc...NoVa is on top of thier public school systems quality of education.

Good Luck!
