pat,

you might find some great information on Craigslist regarding 2BR apartments in that range. When I moved here (3 months ago), there was a furnished 2 bed 1bath available for 1395. I know its not exactly what you're looking for, but its going to take more than a cursory search to find what you're looking for with that kind of scratch...

Try looking in Reston, Herndon, Chantilly, and Fair Lakes, all of which are within 20 minutes. For example, this place offers covered parking space for an extra $30/mo. Inquire as to whether this is in addition to the regular parking space.

Welcome to VA! I moved up from Georgia to here last year but packed my SUV as much as physically possible and left most of my clothes and furniture at my mom's house. With that being said, when I looked at uhauls it looked to be about $200-$300 (including gas) or so for a one way move with a Uhaul trailer hitched to the back of my truck. More if you're going to rent a Uhaul truck versus just a trailer. At least you're moving in November versus July that was one of the most tiring sweaty days of my life. Good luck!

Look at places that don't have assigned parking. Have you thought about just renting a townhouse or condo from an owner off craigslist?

One tip: give yourself more time than you think to drive the stretch of 81 from the NC border to Herndon. And make frequent rest stops. Try to time the last part of the drive (From Front Royal to Herndon) so that you miss rush hour. After 10 a.m. or before 4:00 p.m. the road should be OK. Welcome to northern Virginia.

Good suggestions here. the one town I have not seen mentioned was Sterling, VA. Some people might yelp about this as there are some neighborhoods that are a bit scruffy, but there are some decent finds there and it is located right next to Herndon.

There is a "General Moving Issues" subject in this forum. You may try posting on there for suggestions. Also, are you hiring a moving company or moving yourself? Try emove.com if you need people to load and unload your truck but are willing to get the truck and drive it yourself. It's easy and I've used them several times with good results.

Good luck with your move and Welcome to Virginia!
