My husband and I are moving from Ventura, CA for his new job in Mclean, VA. We haven't decided if we're going to live in MD, DC or Nova yet. It all depends on where I'll go to grad school.

Meanwhile, I have a California Teaching Credential and a Child Development Teaching Permit for CA. What are the rules for certification in the DC area? Does one have to get a certificate for each state?
I'm just looking to work in the schools as a Child Development Resource Specialist or even a Lead Preschool Teacher.

Thanks for any help offered!

I moved from WA state this summer and when making our decision to live in MD or VA, I looked to see which state I had reciprocity with. We chose VA for a number of reasons and I found the process with VA next to painless! After filling out my paperwork and submitting to VA I had my VA license within 3 weeks. I'm assuming that a CA Teaching Credential is the same as my WA state Teaching Certificate. If so, then it's easy! Go here for the details: Teacher Education and Licensure (http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/newvdoe/teached.html - broken link)

If you want my opinion on which counties to apply with....pm me.
