Default Herndon to Gainesville commute

I just found out today that I am going to be transferred to Gainesville, I live in Herndon what do you think is the best/easiest way to get there from Herndon? Mapquest gives me either I-66 or the Fairfax co pkwy? Thanks!!

Welcome to Fairfax. I see you made it from Roanoke.

You can't take Ffx co pkwy to Gainesville. You'll have to take 66. From Herndon, depending which is closer, you take either 28 or Ffx co pkwy south to 66 west toward Winchester.

28 S to 66 W is the most direct. If you work normal banker hours you should have a decent commute as you'll be going against the heavy traffic.

I am a retail manager, so my hours vary.. but I think it sounds easy I am going to try it out tomorrow (28 S to 66W) and see how it is. I dont start there until next week so a test run will be good! Thanks!

It should be a very easy commute being a reverse commute. I commute from Gainesville to Reston and even that is not bad if you can flex your time a bit (I flex early). Next year office will be moving to Waxpool Rd right off Rt. 28 so will be going straight up Rt. 28 instead of Fairfax County Parkway. I would love to have a reverse commute! Last night took taxi from Dulles Airport to Gainesville and made it in less than 30 minutes. Probably similar to a reverse commute as far as the traffic levels.

Quite often the w/b I 66 traffic going into Gainesville will back up. It generally moves fairly quick. If you don't like sitting in it then you can get off at exit 44 and head towards Manassas (Only goes one way) and turn right at the first light onto Balls Ford Rd. Take that to Wellington Rd (First light) and turn right, that brings you into Gainesville.
