Hey everyone! I'll be visiting the DC area in two weeks to find a job. I'll be there for a week and I'm staying between the Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle area, whats around there? I did a walk score and its says its a walkers paradise but I'd like some locals opinion please. Good bars, restaurants, etc?? What would you recommend doing in my spare time while I'm there?

Thanks in advance

Adams-Morgan is a VERY hip and trendy part of the District for bar-hopping 20-somethings. There is some retail there, but generally speaking this is a good place to hit up if you have a rumbly in the tumbly or a yearn to grab a beer at a karaoke bar.

Dupont Circle, along with neighboring Logan Circle and to a lesser extent Scott Circle, is DC's gay/lesbian epicenter with some gay bars and clubs. I've admittedly never spent much time here other than just driving through, but it did also seem like there were some promising restaurants and trendy non-LGBT bars as well.

Here is 18th Street NW in Adams-Morgan, one of the primary commercial corridors with some really funky architecture. You're also not far from the zoo.

That's what everyone says, but Dupont is actually the lesser of the gay compared to Logan & Scott. I've actually never seen any gay people in Dupont, but then again, on a Friday night there so many pretty ladies out in Dupont, I'm not counting...

Adams Morgan is a little more uptight and tougher, as in if you step on someone's foot they'll want to pick a fight with you , while in Dupont you're more likely to get a "sorry dude" or "excuse me" response.

hehe. Gays don't bother me whatsoever so they shouldn't be a problem in any scenario.

Can you walk to Dupont from Adams Morgan? I'll be off Wyoming Ave.

As for people being uptight in Adams Morgan...I'm from the south so I guess I can kill them with kindness, lol. Thanks for the responses. I'm really excited about doing something different.

Definitely can walk from Adams Morgan to Dupont Circle. You could either walk down 18th and cut over, or walk down Columbia to Connecticut and then down, or just make up your own route. It's not far.

Best route probably: walk down 18th and see most of Adam's Morgan businesses, turn right on Florida Ave, then left on Connecticut, that way you see most of Dupont's businesses, and walk down to the circle.

takes about 10-15 minutes, but it's very walkable

if you're on Wyoming, go east a few blocks to 18th street, then walk north to hit Adams-Morgan

I might be suggesting the obvious but you may also find informed responses on the Washington DC forum itself.
