Springfield help
i posted in the wrong forum, so here goes for a 2nd try....
i will most likely be moving to VA for a job that is in Springfield. can anyone suggest a town 0-30 miles from Springfield that has 1 story homes in the 2500 sq.ft. range on 1/2 acre, give-or-take etc. looking for a nice development and fairly newer homes in the 350k range. my daily rt commute today in AZ is 200mi/day (4hr/day), but i really need to limit travel time if possible.
and any suggestions for a 1-2 bed apartments, i will need to be in an apartment while i house hunt.
thanks for any suggestions.
i did some quik searching and wow, 6100sq.ft. on 7 acres for just 350k ( mls SP7024682). a tad far, but wow, thats a lot of home for just 350k. i defintely like the big homes on land.

That is quite a ways out. Compared to AZ, your commute would be about 1/2 the distance, but many days about the same in time.
Maybe you could look at Manassas, Dumfries, Montclair, Woodbridge zips. Are short sales or bank owned properties options for you?

Yes, but they won't come close to meeting these criteria:
"1 story homes in the 2500 sq.ft. range on 1/2 acre, give-or-take etc. looking for a nice development and fairly newer homes in the 350k range"

Pretty doubtful that you will find a 2500 1 story house for $350 on 1/2 acre in Springfield. Maybe 30 years ago... the 1 stories are most smaller & older, like from the 50s.
30 miles one way is a killer. I do it now, and we are readjusting our priorities to be closer to our jobs. Here in the DC area 30 miles can take you 45 min. or 2 hours, depends on the day. The further out you live, the longer the drive to work and to pretty much everything. big homes on land are great! We all like them but spending hours in the car each day gets wearing.
Spotsylvania is REALLY far from Springfield. You would be hating life. 95 south is a nightmare on the way home in the afternoon. Dumfries/Montclair/Triangle, not so bad from Springfield. About 18 miles, one way.

You need to re-think your criteria. Either the commute time or price range will have to go up, or your house/land size will have to go down. Many people pay $350K for a condo in northern Virginia, and "starter" homes are usually considerably more than that, especially for newer, nicer developments.

Burke and Chantilly would be nice. None of these are really newer neighborhoods but the commute going south on the ffx parkway should be 30 min tops.
