I believe that the people at my office use Quick's.

The bus is usually a good option because one the bus hits the Quantico area, it makes use of the HOV lanes. Once you get into those, barring an accident, it's a pretty fast, straight shot to DC.

Just watch out... during the holidays and any kind of winter weather the traffic time DOUBLES! I drive from Fredericksburg to Arlington 6 days a week and I have averaged about 2-3 hours each drive during the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years time. I would DEFINITELY take the VRE if I had hours in which I could take it.

Considering your schedule, you'd really have to like driving if you decide to take your car. Experiment with the different options available and decide which one works for you. I like to read and I-Pod, so the VRE would be a no-brainer. If you're boarding the train in F-burg, you wouldn't have to jockey for a seat.

All well and good that Fredericksburg has "charm" but you won't be there for any amount of time to enjoy it if you are working in DC. You'll be too tired at night and busy doing errands on the weekends. Consider looking for a place CLOSE IN and then you won't be exhausted with the drive and you can go to Fredericksburg on the weekend and enjoy the town as a vistor.
