Guess he said f Virginia after they elected the GOP for the governorship.

Never mind that he's neglecting Hampton Roads (the hardest hit region in Virginia) which is pretty blue in some parts.

I think he said that to Virginia a while ago especially when he took the job offered by Mr.Obama.. gosh I sure hope McDonnell cares more about us.

Do you really think it would make a difference if Kaine was wading around flooded streets down there....or filling sandbags?

Where's "Virginia Beach's Own"?

I think as governor he owes it to his state to be here during this time of need. It dosnt matter how much pyhsical help he is to the state its the fact that he is here with us... Honestly McDonnell isnt the govenor yet Kaine still is and thats my point.. he should be here. He is too intrested in what his party has going on.

Sorry, I just don't need soothing words from some phony politician.

If a storm decimates my property...the only words that will soothe me are those spoken by my insurance company's claims adjustor...

This is more than rhetorical...my boat is tied up behind my summer place on a tributary of the Middle Chesapeake...this could affect me. I may have to take her out to protect her....

He declared a state of emergency on Wednesday night, so it seems as if he's doing his job, regardless of wherever he is at the moment.

And he's due back in Virginia tonight. He was already out of the state before the flooding started, it's not as if he left during it. You expected him to be here to stretch out his arms and make the flood waters recede?

I love when people like to make this political.

I seem to remember that someone was moaning about someone not being at an emergency during the RNC last year.

Does it really matter? I guess it only matters if you are a Democrat and want to point the finger at a Republican or you are a Republican and want to take a jab at a Democrat. That's all it's ever about during these things.

I totally agree. I've never understood this need to be at a disaster site, unless you're actually helping evacuate people or something like that. You can give orders and declare a state of emergency from anywhere, and that's the only useful thing a politician can do anyway.

Maybe touring a site after a disaster brings a little emotional support, but besides that what good does it do to physically be at a disaster site? A lot of times I think politicians are just in the way.

From the July 9th Washington Post: "He [Kaine] said he would conduct DNC business on weekends and in the evenings and rely on aides, computers and phones to monitor party business. He said in November that to do otherwise would not be 'consistent with being governor. . . . I would view it as taking my eye too much off the ball about things that need to happen here.' "

As far as I can tell, yesterday was not a weekend, and the luncheon in Arkansas was not in the evening:

Kaine Heads to Arkansas for Luncheon
