Yeah, all the good ones are either married or straight.

This is why I think these stats are kind of meaningless. People mingle in social groups- it's not like all of DC is meeting together and pairing off.
This is an outdated stereotype. I'm an engineer and almost all of my friends are NOT engineers. There's more to life than what you do for a living.

It wasn't a stereotype. It was based on experience.

I'm an engineer and most of my friends are too. So are most of their friends.

They're not all engineers, but a majority are. Most people I know make most of their friends through work.

But I don't live or work in DC.
I think as a percentage, DC is supposed to be one of the gayest large cities in the country, behind SF, Seattle, Minneapolis and maybe one more. If you combine that with the high incarceration rate among African-American men, it's no wonder there are more straight single women than straight single men in DC.

Maybe I should tell my nephew to move down here. He's up at Rensselear, where it's 5 guys for every girl. He needs our warmer winters... and our warm Virginia women, too.
Yet again, I knew I should have been an engineer.....I let my stupid cousin (who also went to Rensselear) talk me out of it

Maybe it's just my imagination, but with all the people moving here these days it seems like the balance has switched and the population has become more male than it was a few years ago. I see a lot more guys every where I go (well except at the gynecologist, LOL). Anyone else noticing this?

Remember, women live longer than men. If you compare, say, 18-35 year olds, there's probably parity between single guys and girls or there's a surplus of single guys. Most of this "surplus" is among the over 50 set.

On the other hand, there's more guys in jail than girls and there's more guys than girls who do the stereotypical mother's basement thing, so I don't know how to account for that.
